The Stage is Set, Surrey

High on a Surrey hillside, with sweeping views across the countryside, stands Woodcrest – a detached Arts and Crafts villa with generous proportions, eclectic spaces, and a garden sprawling in every direction.

When Carlton and Stephen bought the house a year ago, they saw its promise immediately: the potential for transformation, for a masterplan that would give coherence and drama to a place of already remarkable character.

They brought with them not only great taste and a wealth of ideas, but also the wisdom to know when to call in a guiding hand. Our role was to shepherd their ambitions – to take their instincts, their likes, their wish list, and give it architectural clarity, a framework for creativity to unfold.

The brief extended beyond the main house to the separate garage, the overgrown gardens, the long-disused swimming pool, and the site of a future annex building. Our designs wove all of these elements into a lively, free-flowing arrangement of spaces: interior and exterior, built and landscaped, public and private, summer and winter. The hillside setting and the drama of the seasons became active participants in the design, shaping views, connections, and rhythms throughout the property.

The first stage of the masterplan is now complete, with full planning consent secured. Carlton and Stephen are delighted, and Woodcrest is set on a course for transformation – a layered and evolving project, grounded in place, landscape, and vision. The stage is set.
