The proposal is rooted in a close reading of the surrounding landscape. Taking cues from the vernacular language of drystone walling, the new interventions are conceived as a series of carefully composed volumes that step with the natural topography. This approach allows the architecture to sit quietly within the hillside, reinforcing a strong sense of place.

A sequence of tiered courtyards is introduced to draw daylight deep into the plan and to establish a layered relationship between interior and exterior spaces. These external rooms create moments of enclosure and openness, framing views across the landscape while enhancing the day to day experience of the home.

The design seeks to balance continuity and contrast, pairing traditional materials with contemporary forms to create a calm, cohesive environment. The result is a considered and adaptable sanctuary, centred on the rhythms of family life.
