The concept design for this home in Crouch End, North London, reimagines the house around a generous, hardworking kitchen that becomes the true heart of family life. Designed to support cooking, working, entertaining and everyday rituals, the kitchen opens towards the garden, making it a natural extension of the home and embracing the shifting levels of the site.
Our clients, a creative couple working in the performing arts, wanted a home that felt relaxed, comfortable and personal. They were drawn to interiors that feel collected rather than curated, with a mix of old and new, natural materials, colour, pattern and texture.
The design embraces the site’s changing levels, creating a sequence of spaces with their own character, while improving movement between the house and garden and strengthening visual connections throughout.
Across the house, contemporary interventions sit alongside older elements and a growing collection of books, artwork, rugs and furniture. Nothing is intended to feel too precious or too finished. Instead, the spaces are comfortable, slightly eclectic and able to evolve as family life changes.
